At REDARC, growth has always been about more than just electronics—it’s about people, innovation and purpose. That’s why we’re proud to share the next chapter in our journey: the creation of a new $50 million Defence and Space Hub in Lonsdale, South Australia.
This isn’t just an investment in bricks and mortar. It’s an investment in people, with the project set to create 200 new high-tech jobs by 2032. From engineers and technicians to assembly specialists and graduates, this hub will open doors to rewarding careers while advancing Australia’s capabilities on the global stage.
We’ve already completed the first stage of the facility, located just a few kilometres from our headquarters. Stage two will see the addition of a highly secure, two-storey facility designed to support our growing Defence and Space division.
“Our vision is to build a hi-tech, next-generation, secure facility that not only supports REDARC’s expansion but also unlocks potential and strengthens Australia’s global standing in defence and space,” says Managing Director Anthony Kittel.
For us, the hub is more than a building—it’s a place where people come together to innovate. Engineers, technicians and defence experts will collaborate on cutting-edge systems, from advanced power solutions to space-ready technologies. It’s about creating an environment that supports our partners locally, nationally and internationally for decades to come.
The site itself has its own story. Acquired in 2013, the 1.2-hectare former R&D facility once belonged to spectacle lens developer Sola International. Today, it’s being reimagined to accommodate REDARC’s expanding defence and space operations.
Our impact is already being felt across major projects. We supply battery monitoring and power management solutions for BAE Systems Maritime Australia’s Hunter class frigates program and contribute to Kongsberg and Raytheon’s NASAMS surface-to-air missile system. This new hub will take that work further, with advanced spaces for manufacturing, testing, and R&D, alongside dedicated areas to engage students and start-ups.
“This will be a dynamic place that sparks collaboration across two of the most exciting industries,” says Anthony. “It’s not just about accelerating REDARC’s growth—it’s about nurturing the next generation of innovators by giving them access to world-class equipment and secure testing facilities.”
From mechanical and software engineers to high-level assembly technicians, this hub will create pathways into high-value careers, supported by a culture of teamwork and innovation.
The project has been backed by a $1 million contribution from the South Australian Government, recognising its value to the state’s future. Today, REDARC employs more than 350 people, including a specialist Defence and Space division that has been operating since 2020. Earlier this year, we also signed an agreement with US-based Projects Unlimited Inc (PUI), strengthening our global partnerships and aligning with the AUKUS defence alliance.
For us, this hub is about more than growth. It’s about building a legacy that empowers people, drives innovation and positions Australia as a leader in defence and space technology.
