Dion Carle named inaugural REDARC Young Technician of the Year

Dion Carle’s talents and ambitions have been recognised with the inaugural REDARC Young Technician of the Year Award.

The 22-year-old auto electrician was presented with the achievement at VASA’s Wire & Gas 2024 convention held in Brisbane in August. Based in Perth, Dion is currently working at Voltaic Auto Electrical.

The prestigious award was open to VASA members or those working in VASA member businesses. It aimed to recognise and celebrate the exceptional talent and contributions of individuals under 30 years of age within the automotive industry.

As part of the award, Dion received a $5000 retail value prize of items of his choosing from the current REDARC catalogue as well as fully funded attendance to the convention, including travel to and from the event, accommodation and registration.

In accepting the award, Dion said: “It’s an incredible honour not only to receive this recognition but also to have the opportunity to explore and learn at the Wire and Gas Convention here in Brisbane.”

“I’m deeply humbled to have my efforts and achievements in the automotive industry acknowledged in this way. I would also like to express my gratitude to Josh, my boss, and the entire team at Voltaic Auto Electrical. Your guidance and support have played a huge role in shaping the technician I am today.”

In less than three years since he started as an auto electrician, Dion’s professional development activities have included attending The Automotive Technician seminars, REDARC REDNetwork training, in-house advanced Autel diagnostic training, and obtaining a forklift license.

Dion concluded his acceptance speech with a quote he said had greatly shaped his approach to learning and loving what he does: “The world is constantly evolving around us. If we don’t keep learning and improving, it will leave us behind. Treat every day as an opportunity to grow and get better.”

VASA President Brett Meads said: “We are thrilled to host the inaugural REDARC Young Technician of the Year Award at Wire & Gas 2024 as, like REDARC, VASA believes in nurturing and empowering the next generation of automotive professionals.”

Dion’s nomination for the REDARC Young Technician of the Year Award stood out because it demonstrated his skills in technical installations, particularly in advanced battery management systems, and contributions to innovative solutions such as custom laser-printed switch designs.

He also supports apprentices and upholds safety standards within the workplace while keeping updated with the latest industry trends, particularly in 12V accessories and vehicle technologies, and is excited about the advancements in this field.
