Pre Easter Checklist for Camping and Towing

With the Easter long weekend creeping up quickly, it’s the perfect time to make sure your 12V setup is as ready for an Easter getaway as you are. There are a few quick things you should check before you hit the road to make sure you don’t run into any troubles while you’re trying to relax.

POWER

If you’re travelling with a GoBlock or portable dual battery system, you’ll want to make sure it’s topped up and ready to go. There’s nothing worse than getting halfway through your trip and finding a warm fridge because you’ve run out of power. An easy way to do this is to give your GoBlock a full charge via mains power at home before you go. This ensures you’re starting with a fully charged power source.

Similarly, if you’ve got an on-board dual battery system it’s important to make sure your batteries are sitting at 100% if you haven’t used your system for a while. Often, driving to camp will top up your batteries via alternator or solar power, but if you’ve got a Manager30 or Manager Alpha Battery Management System installed, you can plug it into mains at home as well to make sure you’re at peak power when you get to the campsite.

CONNECTIONS

To make sure everything runs smoothly when you get to camp, keeping your plugs and connections clean can stop dust ruining a good connection. To clean your Anderson™ connections, blow out any dust and debris and if required, spray with some electronic contact cleaner and wipe off immediately with a clean cloth.

Once your connections are cleaned, it always pays to test your system and make sure everything is running smoothly before you get on your way.

SOLAR

If you’re looking to make the most of solar power while you’re off-grid to keep your power system charged up, you’ll want to make sure your panels are in tip top condition.

If you’re new to solar charging, we recommend checking out our blog on how to get the best results from your solar panels, but even if you’re a seasoned solar user, giving your solar panels a bit of a clean before you go is still a good idea.

Fixed solar panels are easy to clean. Simply grab a few microfiber cloths, wet one in water to gently wipe the panel down and then dry it with the dry cloth.

TOWING

If you’re towing a caravan or camper trailer to your destination this Easter, don’t forget to connect your trailer and check that all the lights are working. If you’ve got a Tow-Pro Link, check out our handy video to learn how to make the most of the new brake light test feature. It’s also worth going for a quick test run to make sure your brakes are doing what the Tow Pro is telling them to and if not it’s the perfect time for a brake adjustment.

With just a few simple checks, you can make sure that your system is ready to go for your Easter camping trip.
