South Australian-based advanced manufacturing company REDARC Electronics welcomes the official announcement by the Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP, selecting Rheinmetall to provide its next generation 8x8 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRVs) as part of plans to modernise the Australian Army under the Land 400 Phase 2 Project.
The contract will see the Australian ASLAV fleet replaced by over 200 Boxer CRVs at an estimated cost of $5.2 billion.
Under Rheinmetall’s commitment to the Commonwealth, they will build the majority of the vehicles in Queensland and work with Australian SMEs. In June 2017 REDARC Electronics was chosen as a SME teaming partner for Rheinmetall to form part of a globally competitive military vehicle industry and contribute to the Rheinmetall Boxer CRV program.
REDARC have been selected as a SME partner to deliver a range of services and products that will contribute into the Boxer CRV.
REDARC’s Managing Director, Mr Anthony Kittel said REDARC Electronics welcomes the announcement that Rheinmetall have been successful in their LAND 400 Phase 2 bid and looks forward to supporting the company through the project.
“LAND 400 forms a key part of REDARC’s overall defence strategy, which comprises land vehicles and a number of maritime programs including the Future Frigates and the Future Submarines, he said.
Mr Kittel said working with Defence Primes will help underpin the company’s future growth plans and create advanced manufacturing jobs.
“Together with our commercial products export strategy, this announcement will support REDARC in creating another 100 jobs by 2020.”
REDARC have established themselves as a key SME in the Australian Defence sector over the past 5 years, with Defence seen as a strategic pillar for the business and an opportunity for the business to grow in coming years.
To date REDARC has worked with major Primes in modifying existing products to suit military requirements which are now being supplied into land vehicle programs.
REDARC is currently undertaking a major facility upgrade which has seen new state-of-the-art machinery and testing and validation equipment purchased. Within the next 6 months 2,000sq m of advanced manufacturing space will be added to the facility.
