REDARC to sponsor multiple South Australian teams in the 2017 World Solar Challenge

The biennial World Solar Challenge gets underway in October and REDARC is proud to be sponsoring the three South Australian teams participating in the event.

The 2017 event is an important milestone for The World Solar Challenge as it is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The event brings together young, skilled minds that are required to research, build, design and manage solar-powered vehicles capable of travelling the 3,000km journey from Darwin through the centre of Australia to Adelaide. The 2017 event is expected to attract over 70 teams from over 20 countries and be viewed by over 25 million people.

Rodrigo Marino, a Graduate Engineer at REDARC and past participant of the TAFE SA team said, “Not only does the World Solar Challenge promote innovation, it is also committed to continually working towards a sustainable society, these values are an extension of REDARC’s own values which is why we are proud to support such an exciting event.”

The 2017 World Solar Challenge will see REDARC sponsor three different teams from a variety of South Australian further learning institutes. Out of the 7 teams from Australia competing in the event, 3 of them are from South Australia and REDARC are proud to sponsor all of them.

The team from Adelaide University will be entering the Challenger Class, a single stage race from Darwin to Adelaide. This year will also see the AUSRT team introduce their brand new solar car, the Lumen 2 which has been a complete ground-up rebuild from their previous solar car.

The TAFE SA Team will also have a new solar car for the 2017 race as they look to continue to build on their past achievements in which they placed first in the 2015 Adventure Class category. This will be the 8th time TAFE SA participate in the event.

The third team REDARC will be sponsoring is from Flinders University. The Flinders Automotive Solar Team are a new team and are in the process of developing their first car for their inaugural event and will be unveiling their brand-new car, the Investigator MK III in the Cruiser Class.

Managing Director of REDARC, Mr Anthony Kittel said the event encompasses sustainability and environmentally responsible practices within an industry which is closely aligned to REDARC’s values and internal policies.

“REDARC is a passionate innovator that provides renewable energy systems for vehicles and a core focus on developing the skills of young people in South Australia. The opportunity to sponsor multiple teams from South Australia aligns closely with our goals and practises within these sectors”.
