Why is my Tow-Pro flashing green?

This information is applicable to the following Tow-Pro Electric Brake Controllers:

Tow-Pro Elite V2 (EBRH-ACCV2)
Tow-Pro Elite V3 (EBRH-ACCV3)
Tow-Pro Classic (EBRHV2)

HOW WILL THIS APPEAR?

The Tow-Pro remote head LED will display a flashing green light.

WHAT DOES GREEN FLASHING MEAN?

Only whilst braking: The Tow-Pro has detected an unstable supply of power from the start battery to the Tow-Pro main unit. For further detail refer to section 1.

At any time: The Tow-Pro has performed an incomplete start-up process, this is usually caused by a hesitation when connecting the black wire to power. For further detail refer to section 2.

CAN I STILL TOW WITH THIS FAULT?

It is recommended to avoid towing when this fault code is detected, as the Tow-Pro might experience a loss of power supply, resulting in no trailer braking.

WHAT CAUSES THIS FAULT?

To determine the cause of this fault, it will require diagnostic testing and REDARC recommends seeking the support of an installer where possible, however please see below a list of the common causes and repairs.

SECTION 1

Tow Pro remote head's LED displays a flashing green only whilst braking

This issue relates to the Tow Pro power supply from the vehicles starting battery being unstable and/or cycling ON/OFF.

Please see below a list of the common causes and repairs:

Poor or loose connections between the positive terminal of the starting battery and the Tow-Pro main unit’s black wire.

Check the condition and tension of the connections between the start battery and the Tow-Pro. See image below for connection points such as crimps, solder joints and connections at the circuit breaker or fuse.
To determine which circuit breaker or fuse is connected to the Tow-Pro, it may be necessary to access the main unit of Tow-Pro (usually located under the dashboard) and trace the black wire from the main unit back to the start battery.

Faulty circuit breaker that has either poor internal connection or is continuously disconnecting and reconnecting (only applicable to installations utilising a circuit breaker for fuse protection)

As circuit breakers are sealed units, it is not possible to inspect the condition, however, a replacement can be carried out to determine if the circuit breaker is the cause of the fault.
To replace a circuit breaker, disconnect the negative battery terminal from the start battery.
Remove the wires and mounting hardware from the circuit breaker. Match the amperage size and style of circuit breaker with a replacement, which can be sourced from a local automotive retailer.
Reinstall the replacement circuit breaker in the opposite order and reconnect the start battery negative terminal.
Check operation to determine if the fault has cleared.

SECTION 2

Tow Pro remote head's LED displays a flashing green at any time

This fault code is indicating that the Tow-Pro main unit has experienced an incomplete startup. This could be due to two reasons:

An unstable power supply during the initial connection; or
Continuous low voltage on the Tow-Pro Brake Signal (RED) wire.

An unstable power supply during the initial connection

This instability is usually a result of the black power wire losing / regaining connection when being tightened under the bolt to the positive terminal of the start battery.

Continuous low voltage on the Tow-Pro Brake Signal (red) wire

To clear this fault mode, you may need to reset the Tow-Pro unit, please follow instructions below

To reset the Tow-Pro, disconnect the negative terminal of the starting battery and wait approximately 2 minutes before re-connecting.
The Tow-Pro is now reset however will require re-calibration, please refer to the calibration section of the user manual.
Re-connect the trailer to determine if the fault has cleared.

If fault is still occurring after reset, voltage checks will need to be carried out on the Tow Pro Main Unit wiring. Diagnostic testing will be required and for this level of testing REDARC recommends seeking the support of an installer where possible.
