Getting To Know Erich Ross: Regional Sales Manager - East

As one of our first REDARC team members on the ground in the US, you may have seen Erich’s Tacoma out and about across the eastern states. We caught up with Erich to find out a bit about him, so you can get to know one of the people that represents REDARC across the US.

What is your working background? What were you doing before you joined REDARC?

Prior to joining the REDARC team, I worked for Keystone Automotive Operations. Keystone is the largest aftermarket parts distributer in North America and where I first learned about REDARC. I served as a Regional Sales Manager, Outside Sales Manager, and as a Retail Store Manager in an off road and performance store during my time with Keystone. Prior to that, I served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years as an Aircraft Mechanic and later a Flight Engineer onboard the E-3 AWACS surveillance aircraft.

Talk us through what an average day at REDARC consists of?

When not attending one of the many overlanding or 4x4 shows here in the US, I am visiting REDARC customers and potential prospects in the eastern half of the US. I spend the day traveling from shop to shop showing off the mighty REDARC Tacoma and generating as much excitement as possible. Late afternoon consists of locating a warm bed for the night with a nice view, attending to my notes for the day, responding to customer inquiries, and researching my planned stops for the next day. After a good dinner, I like to relax and watch a movie before a good night’s sleep and get ready for another productive day strapped to my trusty Tacoma.

What is the best thing about working at REDARC?

I have never worked for a company that was so concerned about my wellbeing, both physically and mentally. At REDARC, it’s not all about statistics, production, and execution. Every employee is made to feel important and an integral part of the machine. Excellence and fun are melded together in a perfect balance.

What is your favourite REDARC product and why?

The Tow-Pro Brake Controller! There has never been a product that I have been tasked with selling that captures my customer’s attention more than the Tow-Pro. No matter what type of customer I am visiting, I feel confident that the Tow-Pro will have a place in the discussion.

What is your dream vehicle? And what gadgets would you put in it?

Sometimes I want to lightly bounce down a secluded trail, and sometimes I want to go 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds. The Dodge Ram 1500 TRX with 702HP would have to be my base for the perfect rig. Add a slide-in camper on the back, Redvision/Manager 30 system, portable shower, gourmet kitchen, and tons of solar at a beach campsite. I may not return.

Tell us about your REDARC Tacoma, what products do you have and why are they important?

The combination of the Mits Alloy canopy and the REDARC display have been such an amazing tool to use in our product demonstrations. Also, the ARB refrigerator has been a great tool for long road trips, allowing me to carry some fresh food instead of relying on restaurants for lunch. Most importantly, the beautiful wrap on these U.S. Tacoma’s really gets some attention. Almost every stop at the gas station generates a conversation about who we are.

When you’re out meeting people on the road and they ask “What REDARC product do I need?” what do you tell them?

I like to approach this discussion by working backwards. I want the customer to talk through every power accessory that they feel is required, and then what future accessories they might add. From there we determine the battery requirements needed, and then the best REDARC solution to power their dream. I encourage planning ahead and building for the future.

What is your favourite travel destination?

Anywhere with some history associated with it.

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be and why?

Benjamin Franklin – One of our American founding fathers and an inventor who combined ingenuity with a bizarre sense of humor.

Ozzy Osbourne during his Black Sabbath days – What could possibly go wrong?

Winston Churchill – we would probably skip the meal and discuss WWII over whiskey and cigars.

John Lennon – The man who tried change the world with music.

Do you follow any sports, if so what is your favourite team?

I am an avid Hockey fan and follow the Pittsburgh Penguins. My true love is auto racing, and I love it in any form.

Favourite music to listen to when on the road?

I normally listen to audio books on the road or the occasional podcast. When it’s time for the musical burst of energy to get me going, I will normally listen to 90’s Rock and Grunge. I prefer anything that utilizes actual instruments, rather than electronic substitutes!
