We had a chat to Patriot to find out exactly how they go off road.
Who are Patriot Campers?
Patriot Campers was founded in 2013 by now Managing Director, Justin Montesalvo. Fast forward to today, we are providing outstanding camping experiences to thousands of customers around the world. We are Australia’s number one off road camper trailer manufacturer with the awards to prove it, having won the prestigious Camper Trailer Of The Year award seven times.
Using the best locally sourced materials and products, with state-of-the-art equipment and a qualified all Australian team of the best engineers and tradesmen, we bring technology and quality to produce products like no other. Our whole team are passionate about recreational touring and our designs are based on tried and tested experience which shows in all our product functionality.
What have your camper trailers been designed for and why do people choose to go down the Patriot path?
Our camper trailers were born to go off-road. They can go anywhere your tow vehicle can go, and probably further. Most of our camper trailers are designed to fit into most garages, so you can keep your trailer on charge, packed and ready to go. They’re light enough manoeuvre by hand and are as comfortable being towed through the city as they are on the tracks.
How did plans to travel with the whole family affect the design of your camper trailers?
When Justin started Patriot, he created it with his family in mind, designed so Justin and his family would never have to worry about where they towed their camper trailer ever again. The original Patriot Campers X1, is our most ‘family friendly’ 4x4 camper trailer. Packed with power, storage, a large outdoor kitchen and a CS3 integrated tent, it is designed to be packed, prepped and ready to go. Once you arrive at your camping destination, it takes less than 10 minutes to set up and includes a room for the kids.
For families looking to go on long touring trips or a quick weekend getaway, Patriot camper trailers can get you there. When it comes to family camping: functionality, performance, and comfort is critical. With all the features of home and built to last, you don’t waste any time with the family setting up in whatever incredible destination you can find. Safety is also critical when you've got the whole family in the car, so knowing how to tow, having a trailer that's easy to tow and a quality brake controller is essential.

What REDARC products do you have on-board and why did you choose them?
The Manager30 Battery Management System has been at the heart of our camper trailers for many years. As a state-of-the-art battery management system, it’s perfect for maintaining the secondary batteries in our camper trailers by incorporating AC, DC, and solar inputs.
RedVision Total Vehicle Management System is another key part of our camper trailers. Featuring a mounted display that allows you to control and monitor many functions of your camper in one place. You can control multiple on-board devices, including having the ability to turn on lights, water pumps, fridges, and monitor power and water levels, temperatures, energy consumption, and storage. Users can also use Bluetooth connectivity to control your devices via the RedVision app.
Each camper comes with solar panels or blankets to keep these batteries charged throughout the day. Having these products on our camper trailers provides travellers with the reliability to know they have the battery management system in place that will allow them to get off grid for days or even weeks at a time.
Do you have any upgrades planned or improvements on the horizon?
At Patriot Campers we have a reputation for quality, Australian made off-road products and a thirst for award-winning innovation. When we’re not testing our products over harsh terrain both at home in Australia and internationally, we’re at HQ on the Gold Coast refining our camper trailer designs.
How has this setup enabled you to explore and go off road?
Over the years, we’ve evolved our Australian made camper trailers by testing them in the harshest conditions both at home and overseas. This setup allows our customers to get off-road and know that no matter what you throw at a Patriot Camper, it will remain unstoppable.
To keep our trailers balanced and stable no matter how rough the terrain is, we use Independent Suspension. Paired with dual shock suspension to prevent shock fade over long, rough trips and the unmatched handling of the suspension system keeps our camper trailers steady and balanced.
We also haven’t met a person that was uncomfortable towing one of our camper trailers as the average dry tare weight is under one tonne.
What has been the most rewarding part about Patriot Campers?
For us, the most rewarding part of our camper trailers is that they’re proudly Australian made. We have over 100 Queenslanders working to give our camper trailers the attention to detail they deserve. We also work with the best suppliers to ensure a bright future for the entire Australian manufacturing industry.
