Top travel destinations for 2023

With the holiday season and new year around the corner, for many people 2023 trip planning is well underway. We’ve caught up with a few of our friends from around North America to find out what their favourite trip has been and hopefully inspire some of your new year travel plans.

BOUND FOR NOWHERE

Because we are on the road full time, we are on one big trip. However, we do have favorite areas that we’ve explored. Alaska is one of them. Alaska is the farthest north our travels have ever taken us, and we were not prepared for how staggeringly beautiful it would be. The great north is wildly lush, has incredible wildlife, and spray populated. All are the makings from some grand adventures. The space that Alaska gave us also brought about a lot of personal development for us. We are currently (spring 2022) rolling out a video series about out time in Alaska on YouTube… if you’re into that sorta thing!

CHASE GENTRY

My favorite adventure so far is a recent one actually. My wife and I tucked ourselves away deep in the forest outside of Ridgeway Colorado. We were off-grid for about a week and ran a series of mountain passes while in the area. My wife actually successfully drove Black Bear Pass start to finish which was awesome. While at camp we confidently had power via our REDARC systems both in the Bronco and in our Overland Offtrax FEENIX trailer. We did get rained out which added to the adventure and complexity of figuring how to overcome the situation.

DREW MARTIN

Any trip with my family in Baja is my favorite trip. We spent a month between end of December and end of January down there at our place and bounced around between surfing, camping and exploring places we love.

GONDIRTIN

Easily our month long trip to Baja California, Mexico. Waking up on a beach, a few feet from the ocean, to the sound of breaching whales or whales slapping their fins on the ocean’s surface every single morning is unforgettable and really makes you appreciate and be present. Add to the fact that there’s an endless amount of delicious tacos in every town is just a cherry on top of it all.

HOURLESS LIFE

Mainland Mexico has a special place in our hearts. It's so close to those in the United States and easily accessible for overlanders, yet it feels like a world away. The Mexican people are extremely hospitable and generous; we're always blown away by how we're received as complete strangers. There are so many natural areas to enjoy, like the Sierra Gorda mountain range and the tropical La Huasteca Potosina region. Some day after we've completed our drive around the world, we've discussed settling somewhere in Mexico.

INDEPENDENCE OVERLAND

My favorite trip to date would have to be my first longer trip to Utah. Before the roof tent and still using a cooler packed with ice. The first time traveling somewhere like Utah is incredible. Of course it's been epic every time I’ve been since, but the first trip anywhere is always quite a fond memory.

MOON MOUNTAIN MAN

We did a 5-day trip in the 4Runner to Southwest Colorado which was just so unreal. There we drove several high mountain passes, visited the small mountain towns of Ouray, Silverton, Durango, and Telluride which camping high in the mountains next to stunning Alpine Lakes.

MOUNTAINSTATE OVERLAND

Because we are on the road full time, we are on one big trip. However, we do have favorite areas that we’ve explored. Alaska is one of them. Alaska is the farthest north our travels have ever taken us, and we were not prepared for how staggeringly beautiful it would be. OVERLAND BOUND

We drove from the SF Bay Area to the tip of Cabo San Lucas and back. We took our time, spent plenty of days on the beach staring at the ocean, and got to experience some absolutely gorgeous and unique towns along the way.

OVERLAND PIONEERS

Nova Scotia for sure. Besides being one of the most beautiful places we have been the people are amazing too!

OVRLANDX

The last week of 2021, my wife and I made a trip to Loreto Baja California Mexico, we did camping in the most Epic beach location I've ever been to! The Baja Trip is definitely my favorite trip so far.

PRIMAL OUTDOORS

In 2019 I developed a 300-mile dirt track route that traverses you from Bend Oregon which is a trendy little mountain town at the base of the Cascade mountains all the way to the Alvord Desert, a 5 by 10 mile dry lake bed that sits at the base of the very gorgeous Steen Mountain range. The route takes through some gorgeous high desert country. The route takes about a week if you take time to explore the many cool points of interest along the way which include historic homesteads, sand dunes, wrecked A6 Intruder military aircraft and if you're lucky you may even see some wild horses along the way.

RIG TALK

We took a 9 day road trip through AZ & UT visiting some of the most beautiful places on Earth including Sedona, Grand Canyon, ZIon & Horseshoe bend.

REVERE OVERLAND

It's hard to pick a favorite trip, since there have been so many great ones, but it would probably be the first time I took my wife to Utah. I'd been to Utah several times previously, and I really enjoyed seeing her experience the same awe that I had felt when I first went.

SCOTT ADAMSON

My favourite trip so far has to be a mountain biking trip I took with a buddy. We went up through Northern Canada, Alaska and even made it to the Arctic Ocean. Because it was a mountain biking trip, all the places that we stopped were places it would normally be easy to drive right past. This made it one of the most memorable trips I’ve done in a while. It’s a trip you could do over and over and over, and it wouldn’t really get tired of.

SPONSORED BY WIFEY

My favorite trip so far has to be the National Park Tour my family and I took in 2020. We went to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, Bryce Canyon, and Zion all within 10 days. I enjoy trips where I am able to explore with my family, and luckily, they love exploring as well.
