Using bigger solar panels with the Manager30

Question

The Manager30 can use solar panels up to 480W, what will happen if I have a 960W panel set up?

Answer

The Manager30 can use up to 480W from solar panels. Having more panel capacity than this will not damage the system, but the extra capacity will not be fully used during periods of maximum sunlight. More panel capacity will not be wasted though, as a larger set up will allow the Manager30 to deliver full output current in lower lighting conditions (such as earlier or later in the day, or in overcast weather) than a 480W set up would.

As an example

A 480W panel might allow the Manager30 to deliver its full 30A charging current from around 10AM to 2PM (30A for 4 hours= 120 Amp Hours) whereas a 960W panel setup in the same installation might allow the Manager30 to deliver its full 30A charging current from around 9AM until 3PM (30A for 6 hours=180 Amp Hours).

So, even though a 960W panel is much bigger than the Manager30 can fully use in the brightest part of the day, it will still get more total Amp Hours into your battery each day than a 480W panel.
