For this edition of our REDNetwork Member Spotlight, we had a chat to Phil and Rachel from Tate Auto Electrics & Aircon in Palmerston, Northern Territory, for a bit of insight into their business.
How long have you been an auto electrician?
I’ve been working as an auto electrician for over 18 years.
What is your role within the business?
I’m the owner and operator of Tate Auto Electrics & Aircon.
How long has Tate Auto Electrics & Aircon been in operation?
We’ve been operating for nearly three years now.
How many staff does Tate Auto Electrics & Aircon employ?
We currently have six; two tradies, a first, second and third year apprentice, myself and the real boss, my wife, Rachel, in the office.
How long have you been installing REDARC product and what REDARC install are you most proud of?
I’ve been installing REDARC for over ten years. I’m most proud of our full REDARC TVMS installs as they’re just superior to anything else on the market.
What has been your greatest business achievement to date?
Growing from a two-man, mobile business to a team of seven and a workshop in only 12 months has been amazing.
What is the best thing about coming to work every day?
I love my trade and get so much enjoyment from it, it’s great seeing finished projects with our name on them.

- The practical joker? Locky, our first year apprentice

- The calm under pressure? Jarrod, our main sparky
- The diehard 4x4 adventurer? Definitely Connor!

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Nothing official, but I’m very guilty of loudly making up my own songs all day in the workshop.
What is your favourite place in the world?
Bed! It’s the only time I can really switch off and relax. For quality family time, I love the Gold Coast.
If you could share a meal with four famous people, who would they be and why?
My sporting heroes, motocross stars Ken Roczen and Ryan Villapoto. Elon Mush, as I find him daring in business and Post Malone, as he would show us a good time.
If you were a superhero what powers would you have and why?
Superhuman speed to allow me to get more done during the day!
