TOW-PRO RANGE FAQ
WHAT DOES A REDARC TOW-PRO DO?
The REDARC Tow-Pro is a device that controls the electric brake system on caravans, campers and trailers. When you are towing a caravan, camper or trailer across any terrain, whether on or off road, the Tow-Pro provides braking that is safe and suited to the conditions.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO INSTALL A REDARC TOW-PRO?
The cost to install a REDARC Tow-Pro will depend on the installer you choose. You can find a local installer online and request a quote or check out our resources section for tips and troubleshooting if you’re going to install it yourself.
WHY IS MY REDARC TOW-PRO NOT DETECTING MY TRAILER?
Either there is a wiring connection issue present, for example oor wiring/trailer plug connections or it's due to early model electric/hydraulic brake applications as they do not use magnetic brake coils, the load observed by the Tow-Pro is sometimes not enough to indicate that a trailer is connected.
For the Tow-Pro to sense that a trailer is connected, we recommend fitting a 21W, 24V Load Resistor (simulates a lamp load) from the brake output (blue) wire to ground on the trailer. A range of troubleshooting guides are available on our resources page.
WHAT IS THE BEST SETTING FOR THE REDARC TOW-PRO ELITE?
When it comes to setting up electric brakes, your target as the driver, is that the trailer brakes at the same rate as the vehicle. This is the best situation for any braking application as it shares the load across all braked wheels (vehicle & trailer). The best setting for a brake controller like the REDARC Tow-Pro Elite ensures your trailer brakes have maximum braking power without the wheels locking up. Start off somewhere near the lower end of the scale (below level 5) and adjust as needed.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY TOW-PRO IS WORKING?
To check whether your Tow-Pro is working, connect a 21W globe between the earth pin (3) and trailer brake pin (5) of your trailer base. The LED should illuminate BLUE or GREEN depending in what mode it’s in.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REDARC BRAKE CONTROLLER V2 AND V3?
The Tow-Pro Elite V3 is compatible with most modern electric/hydraulic braking systems including the ALKO IQ7. The V3 has an updated communication to support long term reliability as well as revised remote head which is smaller, resulting in more installation options due to being able to be installed in thicker dash panels.
WHAT IS PROPORTIONAL MODE ON THE REDARC TOW-PRO ELITE?
In proportional mode, the REDARC Tow-Pro Elite senses the inertia of the braking vehicle and applies its brakes to match the level of braking by the driver. The effect of this is that the vehicle and trailer brakes operate in unison.
